206 Bourke Street

$110m Retail/Commercial redevelopment of the landmark Village City Centre complex in Bourke Street, Melbourne, renamed 206 Bourke. Quicksilver, G-Star, Smiggle, SUI Hair, Sportsco and Shanghai Dynasty Restaurant have now joined JB HiFi and Melbourne Lord Mayor John So's Dragon Boat restaurant at the high-profile site.

The new 5-level 12,500 sqm combination of retail and office space created by architects DP Toscano and interior design firm, Geyer Design, will breathe new life into the much loved former cinema complex, providing a new cultural hub within Melbourne's Chinatown and enjoying the only direct visual link between Bourke and Lt Bourke Streets in Melbourne.

Reconstructed from older buildings in 1965 by Walton's' department store, it was converted in 1985-86 to a five-level building comprising four cinemas, retail and office space and basement, at a cost of $30m by Village Theatres. Village Roadshow occupied the office space in the upper three levels when the cinemas closed in 2005 while Retail tenants continued to trade at ground level.

Now complete, the building comprises 9,000 sqm of retail space over basement, ground, and upper levels housing international fashion retailers, entertainment retailers, and exciting new restaurants and bars that promise to set a new epicure standard in Asian cuisine right in the heart of Chinatown. The 3,500 sqm of office/education space is located in the three upper levels.
